No dialogue over dead bodies: Sushma Swaraj
9/21/2016 12:27:36 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 20: September 18 deadly Uri attack has changed the nature of discourse in India and for obvious reasons. After all, the attack martyred at least 18 jawans, two from Jammu, and wounded many. It was only natural that the attack and the martyrdom shocked the nation and made the policy-planners in New Delhi to sit up to chalk out policy calculated to avenge the attack and the deaths of brave soldiers, who didn't get the opportunity to fight.
It is also only natural that the nation across the country wants stringent action against the perpetrator of the attack, saying it couldn't withstand more deaths of jawans and time has come for a final assault on Pakistan, which had been bleeding India since 1947 and also seeking to annex J&K.
The Army on Monday made it clear that it will take action and it will not be knee-jerk. It will take action as per its own strategy, the DGMO said at Uri. As for the BJP-led Government of which the Shiv Sena is also a part has tore into the BJP and questioned its policy towards Pakistan and Kashmir and described the Uri attack the fallout of the New Delhi's weak-kneed policies. It has demanded action that could produce a moral effect.
Interestingly, Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Sushma Swaraj, who only till the other day was quite soft towards Pakistan and had declared in the Parliament that talks with Pakistan will go on, on Monday adopted an aggressive line and she took this line through tweet. "@sushmaswaraj Mr Prime Minister - No dialogue over dead bodies. Pl cancel your meeting with Nawaz Sharif", she tweeted.
Her tweet said many, many things. In fact, it should make everyone to sit up to analyse each and every word that she used in her tweet. Why? Why because she is member of the all-powerful Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). Besides, she participated in the meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Others who attended the meeting included Home Minister Rajnatyh Singh, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
One doesn't know if she asked the Prime Minister to avoid dialogue with Pakistan in the wake of the Uri attack. One also doesn't know if she asked the Prime Minister not to go to Pakistan to attend the scheduled SAARC meeting in November. It was her tweet that suggested that she was against any kind of dialogue with Pakistan over the dead bodies of jawans and that she was also not in favour of the idea of the Prime Minister meeting his Pakistan counterpart Mian Nawaz Sharief at Islamabad in November.
Indeed, her tweet has raised many questions. For, she aired her views through the tweet. Her tweet and what she wrote in it can't be overlooked for obvious reasons.
