Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 20: To bring the derailed education system back on the track, Minister for Education Naeem Akhter had a year ago introduced school rationalization policy to rationalise the staff-student ratio in all government schools. But it seems to have no effect as 156 middle schools across the state are functioning without headmasters.
Pleading anonymity, an official of Education department told Early Times that around 90 headmasters' posts are lying vacant in 10 districts of Jammu division and rest in the Kashmir division.
They further said that in each school Headmaster is like a captain of a ship who with the assistance of the crew steers the ship safely to its destination. The headmasters plan the activities of the year in a best possible way for the staff and students to follow.
Criticizing government over overlooked of education sector sources said that a Headmaster also decides on objectives as per the policies of the school and educational policies of the Board and Government and works out systematically the day-to - day functions with the co-operation of the staff but in these schools who had done it.
In absence of headmasters in these schools who organize effective use of the staff and facilities for the benefit of the students in the school. Every activity of the school must be planned well but without head who will be planned.
"A headmaster ensures all the norms of the state government and central sponsored schemes including Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), Mid -day- Meal scheme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and they must be followed. They also ensure that work is done to the standard expected by the board", sources said, adding that indifferent attitude of government as well as higher ups of education department towards these schools, years lapse these schools still awaits head of the institutions.
