Uri terror strike aimed at encouraging separatists and militants
9/20/2016 11:37:39 PM
While India plans to take well
thought action against the Uri terror attack in which India lost 18 soldiers the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said the Uri attack seems to be aimed at triggering fresh violence and creating a war-like situation in the region. She is right but the terror attack was also meant to bolster the mood of the separatists and encourage militants operating in Kashmir. Separatists may not now be forced to modify their calendar issued about shutdowns and rallies which are supposed to end on September 22. After September 22 these very separatists will issue a new calendar keeping the cauldron of violence boiling in the Kashmir where valley since July 8 more than 80 people have been killed while protesting against the killing of Burhan Wani militant commander. In fact it was not an anger over the killing of Burhan Wani because prior to his killing scores of top militants have been eliminated but the valley has never witnessed violence on a massive scale. There were other reasons. First the separatists wanted to divert the attention of the Government which had planned to set up a sainik colony and that too for local people working or retired from the Army. The CM said the heightened tension in the wake of the attack was set to further vitiate the atmosphere in and around Jammu and Kashmir amid increasing Indo-Pak hostility.
"Unfortunately, people in Jammu and Kashmir, who are already mired in an agonising situation shall have to bear the maximum brunt of the fresh attempts being made to step up violence and trigger fresh bloodshed in the state," she said, adding that the state had always been the worst victim of Indo-Pak hostility and its people had been paying a colossal price for the same for the past over six decades. While condemning the attack, the Chief Minister said the perpetrators of violence must understand that violent methods had yielded nothing in the past nor would these yield anything in future except adding to the miseries of the people.
The Chief Minister while expressing anguish over the attack paid rich tributes to the slain soldiers. She extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and also prayed for early recovery of those injured in the attack, an official spokesman said.
Modi besides UN Secretary General Ban-ki-Moon have condemned the Uri attack and said it was an attack against humanity. Such attacks could promote bitterness between India and Pakistan and this is what Pakistan wants to promote so that separatists and militants and their supporters in the Kashmir valley remained engaged in a prolonged tussle with the security forces and the Government. The Government, whether the state or the central, need not succumb to pressure mounted by the militants. The central and the state Government should fight the menace of t error and it was shameful on the part of the opposition particularly the congress to blamed Modi for the Uri incident when Modi had begun his career with moves aimed at befriending Pakistan and other countries in order to promote peace Instead of surgical operations India may try to get Pakistan Isolated by world community.
