| Ancient Kashmir shrine threatened by greed, gluttony of land mafia | | |

srinagar, Jan 1: With land grabbers given a raw deal by the Government, there is no end to the grabbing of Hindu religious places land by anti social elements in Kashmir valley.
After the encroachments of Hindu shrines land in Wanpooh, Kapal Mochan Shopian, Cremation Ground Sopore and other places in Kashmir Valley, the land grabbers wielding political influence have encroached the land of famous Naran Nag temple at Wangath Kangan in Ganderbal district of Kashmir Valley.
According to sources entire land belonging to this religious place has been grabbed by the people wielding the political influence in the area and having a patronage of a Minister. The local population of Kangan and Ganderbal has also lodged their strong protest against the land grabbing of this Hindu shrine which is managed by Archaeological Survey of India which is looking after the ancient monuments in the country for their preservation for posterity, sources added.
Sources said during a recent meeting of some senior citizens held at Kangan and Ganderbal they demanded that the sanctity of this religious place be maintained and the residential houses which were constructed by the people under the patronage of a Minister be dismantled.
Sources said the senior citizens of the area are demanding that shrine be opened for religious pilgrimage and developed on the pattern of holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi so and Swami Amarnath Ji so that the pilgrims from country and abroad can visit there for paying obeisance.
Sources said the local people have also alleged that hundreds kanals of forest land in the area has been encroached by land grabbers and demanded its immediate restoration besides the restoration of land belonging to shrine.
Sources said that senior citizens while demanding bringing of the shrine on religious tourism map of the country said this will help in boosting the economy of the people there.
The forest land has not been encroached in Naran Nag area of Kashmir Valley but other parts of Kashmir as well as various areas of Jammu region. In Jammu vast forest land has been encroached by influential politicians and the people enjoying their patronage.
These land encroachers have constructed their mansions on the encroached land in Bhatindi and Narwal areas under the noose of the Government but no one took the cognisance of the same, sources said. Instead of taking action the Government has been issuing contradictory statements from time to time.
The land grabbing is so galore in the State that at various places in the State land has been grabbed by mafia groups who have either converted it into housing colonies or used for other commercial purposes.
A widow has been fighting a legal battle against the land grabbing in a newly developed colony in city outskirts but success eludes her as the mafia group with the money and muscle power at his command is browbeating her. However, the bold lady has not given in and she is continuing her fight for last several years, sources said.
Sources said the administration instead of taking the suo-moto notice of the same the authorities have failed to provide justice to poor lady who has resolved to fight till last. |
