Omar losing grip over Kashmir as situation worsens | Separatists getting strengthened | |
Saahil Suhail SRINAGAR, Sept 12: The Chief Minister is fast losing grip over Kashmir as the situation continues to worsen following the Shopian killings. With the police saying that the slain youth were civilians, the separatists have started issuing protest calendars. After a brief lull, curfew was re-imposed in Shopian and surrounding districts including Kulgam and Pulwama, while as death of separatist's leader under mysterious circumstances in Baramulla involved North Kashmir into the erupted violence cycle. During today's clashes that broke out between security forces and stone hurling youth, at least one among them identified as Altaf Ahmad son of Tariq Ahmad resident of Redwani Kulgam sustained injuries and later shifted to SKIMS in a critical condition. Chief Minister has now again virtually given a handle to separatists to mobilize masses in a repeat of the 2010 stress protests that is evident with fact of Omar Farooq's Press conference and Geelani's protest calender which according to the highly placed sources will be prolonged by the hardliner, if further killings took place in the Valley. On 7th of this month before the much hyped Musical concert of Zubin Mehta, four civilians were killed in Shopian allegedly by the CRPF that has now increased to five with latest death of another youth in last evening. The assertion of police that among them the 'three were civilians' has added fuel to people's anger and created more chaos especially in Shopian and surrounding areas. In all this, Omar is losing credibility and according to highly placed sources, Chief Minister is no moods to reach out to general public with an appeal of maintain peace and prosperity in the state. "Kashmiri people have seen numerous tragedies due to political failures and in curbing the fresh violence it seems, Government has run out of options and wants to steamroll sentiments of people by oppression," CPI-M state general sectary MY Tarigami said yesterday. PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti yesterday demanded Central Government's intervention into the current crises as according her Omar Abdullah is helpless again. "Mehbooba said she would not appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as he had expressed helplessness time and again over such issues." The fresh violence has strengthened separatist hardliners. Proof of this came, when hardliner Syed Ali Geelani today issued protest calendar urging people to observe shutdown on 13 and 14 of this month. While as Mirwaiz Omar Farooq who today indirectly hitting at Omar Abdullah said rulers of Kashmir have turned shameless and are morally dead, continues to stay relevant by playing Tom and Jerry jokes cards by asking people to host black flags. |
