Shamima demolishes rehabilitation myth
Return of migrants
9/23/2013 11:56:46 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: Notwithstanding the claims of the government to rehabilitate migrant pandits in the Valley, MLA Shamima Firdous is working overtime to sabotage the move. She has been found involved in getting four residential houses owned by migrants demolished in her constituency (Habba Kadal) to raise a shopping line.
The owners of the now) demolished houses have written letters Prime Minister and the Chief Minister expressing surprise over the development. According to them, the houses were auctioned without consulting owners by the National Conference (NC) MLA to benefit her workers.
The migrants finally sought judicial intervention when the letters shot by them went unheeded. A case was filed in the court of Municipal Magistrate, Srinagar in 2012.
The construction of the shopping line in the disputed land was stopped for the time being but recently it was started again much to the annoyance of the migrant owners.
Shamima admitted that a shopping line was being constructed at the site. However, she denied that the houses were demolished and auctioned without the consent of the owners. "They were informed through the local and national media. The compensation amount is lying with the relief Commissioner. They must come and collect the amount. And, if they do not come, we should not be blamed," she said.
The dejected owners , however, have rejected her explanation. "It is illegal and we will fight to the end," they said.
