Bijay Charak Jammu, Sept 22: Vindicating that rules are for fools in J&K, huge fleet of school buses of the Delhi Public school have been hijacking city traffic everyday despite clear guidelines of the state high court and the authorities concerned have chosen to allow the violations for clandestine reasons. At one hand administration has restricted entry of heavy vehicles inside city limits on the directions of the state high court, but contrary to it nearly 80 buses and more than 20 mini-buses of DPS are running in the city, causing traffic jams at various areas. The traffic jams during mornings and afternoons create lot of problems for commuters, shopkeepers of old city. Sources informed Early Times that the entry of all heavy vehicles have been restricted by traffic police and district administration, on the plea that heavy vehicles created jams but same administration has adopted a dual policy for DPS school. "Every morning these old 53-seater buses of DPS bring students to school during morning causing jams in Residency area, Gujjar Nagar, DC Office, Vivekanand Chowk", a resident Balwinder Kumar said, adding that same was the condition when school went off in the afternoons. "The Shaheedi chowk area, where the school is located, is already very congested and the road is leading to Chief Minister's Residence and Deputy Commissioner 's office. There should be no entry of these vehicles but it seems that all rules are for common masses and not for affluent class", a resident rued. A shopkeeper of Shaheehi Chowk Rattan Lal said that DPS had ba strength of over 3000 students and the parking facility for 63 buses and two dozen small vehicles was insufficient, due to which, the movement of vehicles from there was difficult, which had also resulted in a tragic mishap, in which a student was killed. "How the Regional Transport Office has granted permission to private vehicles hired by the DPS and school owned vehicles of DPS when there is no space for parking and chaos prevailed in half of the city everyday", he questioned. They appealed administration to take stringent steps against DPS, so that this perpetual nuisance could be resolved once for all. |
