SRINAGAR, Jan 27: With breakthrough eluding negotiations over LoC trade imbroglio, families of detained truck drivers of Kashmir have threatened hunger strike if their loved ones were not reunited with their families soon. According to the details received , families of detained truck drivers along with office bearers of Truck unions of Kashmir today protested in Uri and demanded immediate intervention of State Government in LOC trade row and release detained truck drivers who are in custody of Pakistan for last 11 days. Protesting families of detained truck drivers who reached Uri this morning while threatening to go on hunger strike if State Government did not took the matter seriously and pressurized both India and Pakistan to solve the matter as soon as possible so that detained truck drivers could return to their homes. Mother of one detained truck driver, Sumit Pal Singh Sodhi of Kanli Bagh Baramulla while talking to Early Times said that her family was worried for her son's health and added that her family and relatives who had come from different parts of Kashmir will go on hunger strike incase State Government did not pursue the matter aggressively.
As protesting families who were assured by authorities in Uri that matter will be resolved soon and their loved ones will be brought back safely to their homes said that they have been victims of second partition between India and Pakistan and their loved ones are missing somewhere on other side of Kashmir. Meanwhile, the weekly Peace-bus service named as Karvan-i-Aman operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad also remained suspended for the second week. Official sources said that as suspension of trade ties between India and Pakistan is taking a heavy toll on transporters, travelers and traders.
Pertinently, authorities in Pakistan have detained 28 truck drivers of Jammu and Kashmir seeking release of their truck driver who was caught smuggling narcotics via Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.
