As CM takes matter to Delhi, Congress puts NC in 'catch -22 situation' | Political row over new admn units | | Adopt 73rd amendment, party will 'sort out' this issue ET Report Jammu, Jan 27: As the squabble between two ruling allies National Conference and Congress over creation of new administrative units has reached a point where it cannot be pushed under the carpet, the clamour is echoed in political corridors of Delhi. After fresh spat and skirmishes reflected in the tone of statements of two parties Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has finally chipped in only to take this matter to 'Delhi Durbar' (of Congress). Omar is learnt to have 'urged' the Congress high command to intervene and sort it out before the threads of ties get weakened further forcing allies to drift apart. Congress too has played its turn well in asking for NC to reciprocate its 'due' on a much bigger issue of 73rds constitutional amendment, a move which has put the former in a catch 22 situation. Well placed sources said Omar Abdullah today left for New Delhi to let the Congress high command know about grave realities of coalition Government and the fresh controversies both the parties have pushed themselves in with sharp differences over creation of new administrative units. Sources said Omar has asked the high command to sort the matters out as early as possible as the present war of nerves between the two allies were proving detrimental for the interests of both the parties at a time when they should have been gearing up for polls. He is learnt to asked the high command to direct the state unit and ministers to deviate from the rigid stand on the issue and cooperate in implementing the report. However, the Congress is learnt to have check mated this with a harder punch in asking the Chief Minister that Congress is ready to move back a step or two in terms of showing some laxity over what it has been steadfast on creation of new administrative units at some places provided NC also moves forward on the issue of agreeing to adoption of 73rd amendment in the state , a demand on which NC has refused to budge as a result of which it stands shelved much to damage of Congress. Congress high command is learnt to have used this as an opportune time to get things their way on this crucial issue on which NC has made them suffer politically. It remains to be seen under this catch 22 situation how NC responds. |
