Congress unlikely to help in compiling report on new units | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 27: The Congress is unlikely to help in compiling and submitting report to be prepared by the sub-committee on creation of new administrative units. The Congress has also decided that it will not accept the recommendations of Mushtaq Ganai report in toto on new administrative units, as leaked reports in the media had suggested it to be discriminatory with Jammu and Ladakh regions. "We are still in deliberations on the final shape of the report. Things can't be done with sword of deadline hanging over. It's a complicated issue with huge political connotations . It's very unlikely that report would be submitted by Jan 31," said a Congress leader, wishing not to be named. This is likely to result in face-off between CM and the Congress, as Omar Abdullah had been consistently insisting the report has to be submitted in time as he had already given too much time. Congress sources said that issue has already been discussed with the party high command and it has been sensitive about the implications and politics behind the insistent of Omar Abdullah. "We had already discussed the issue with the party high command and had also communicated to it about the threatening posture of the Chief Minister. Party high command had said it will only stand by the stance of the State unit," said a Congress leader. Creation of new administrative units, is seen by Congress as a ploy by Omar Abdullah to threaten Congress and use it a political tool in the Valley. The Congress had said that while it's not against the creation of new units in principal but since it has huge financial implications and aspirations involved which need to be studied. "Ganai report can't form the basis. So a fresh approach is needed and also need to be analysed if the representations are logical or not. Then there is issue of involvement of thousand of crores of rupees. If the State puts it on the Centre then will Centre accept it. These are very complicated issues. It can' be decided on twitter but rather than by building a consensus and working on the ground," said a Congress Minister, wishing not to be named. |
