Jammu, July20: Congress party will go alone in coming Assembly elections and field candidates at all the 87 constituencies. This was disclosed by party general secretary Ambica Soni in Jammu today.
In an exclusive chat with Early Times, she said though it is not a practice in Congress party to announce chief ministerial candidate but may go for it as there are indicators and pressures from workers to declare chief ministerial candidate well before the start of elections.
She said the decision shall be taken in the election committee as who is best possible candidate. However, the final decision has to be taken by the high command. About repeating candidates in next assembly elections, she said that it is not final yet. "We may or may not. We may include new faces as well. It is the matter of time only,' she said.
She said the Congress party will take appropriate decision at right time and all options are open. "This time our focus will be on women folk. As you know our president is a women and even I belong to the
female gender. So the women candidates will get priority."
Early Times also talked to Minister for Power, Vikar Rasool, who advocated chief minister candidature for Ghulam Nabi Azad and said that he is the only leader who can change the destiny of this state.
He recalled the development in the state during Azad’s tenure as Chief Minister. Another Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani said he is even ready to sacrifice his seat for Azad as he deserves to be the chief minister of the state. "It is only the matter of time to see whether the high command will think on announcing chief minister candidate in state or they will adopt their old practice,' he said adding "There are enough indicators and pressures inside party to announce the name in advance and that too when party is contesting on all 87 constituencies on its own."
