Lal Singh quits Cong, likely to join PDP | | | KATHUA, July 20: Two times Member Parliament from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua segment and former Minister, Choudhary Lal Singh today resigned from the Congress party. Lal Singh is most likely to join People’s Democratic Party (PDP) because today he has given hints about joining Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's party. Lal Singh had served as Health Minister when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was Chief Minister of the State. Decision of Lal Singh to quit Congress is perceived a severe setback to the party. After defeat of Ghulam Nabi Azad from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat, Congress leadership in the State was demanding action against Lal Singh for sabotage elections of Azad. Lal Singh today convened meeting of his supporters in which he announced his resignation from the Congress party. While addressing his supporters, Lal Singh attached leadership of Congress for ignoring mass base leaders and encouraging only touts and sycophants. He said that decision of the Congress leadership to deny him mandate from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua segment was wrong. He said that Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was failed to even win election from a Lok Sabha segment, which was earlier known as strong hold of Congress, was appointed as Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha which discouraged dedicated workers. Lal Singh had won 1996 assembly election from Basholi as candidate of Congress (Tiwari). In 2002, he joined Congress and contested election of Congress ticket from same Assembly segment. He won the 2002 Assembly election and became Minister in the PDP-Congress coalition government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. |
