Sources told Early Times that in the year 2002-03, a canal of 5 Km length was proposed to be constructed from Thumbha Garan Nalla to Nahoti area in Panchayat Nalla Makol Sunderbani Tehsil of district Rajouri at the cost of Rs. 2.10 crores but till date the PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department has constructed only 2-2.5 Km stretch of the said canal. Locals of the Nahoti area told Early Times that they had appealed the concerned authority numbers of times about the unusual delay in the construction of the said canal but all the attempts fell on deaf ears. Members of a family Chanchlo Devi, Pushpa Devi, Kali Dass, Durga Dass in Nahoti area said that the half constructed canal has become a serious problem for their Kutcha house as whenever the water gets accumulated in the canal in rainy seasons, the slope of the canal towards their house usually leads to loss of property and livestock. DE, Sunderbani Subash Chander, when contacted by Early Times over the unusual delay in the construction of the canal shifted the onus on senior authorities and denied to talk over the issue. Similarly AEE Ashwani Kumar didn't reply to any of the call made by Early Times on his cell phone.
