BR Sharma resigns as president Mountaineering Association | Would others follow the suit? | | Abodh Sharma ET Report jammu, Feb 18: Two days after Early Times published a story titled 'Two hoots to Governor's directive' highlighting that despite the directives of the Governor to all government officers/officials to resign from sports associations, not a single officer had either resigned or sought permission from the Government; B R Sharma, Financial Commissioner Planning, who was the honorary president of the J&K Mountaineering Association resigned in accordance with the provisions of SRO-164 that restrains government officers to hold any positions in Sports Associations. Sources divulge that Secretary Sports Council had issued a circular to all sports associations, asking all their office bearers who are government officers to seek permission from the government on prescribed proforma. "While no officer had responded to the circular till few days back, the story published in the ET has caused flutter amongs the violators" an officer in the GAD said in response to a query. ET has however learnt that certain IAS / IPS officers, who want to hold on to their positions in the sports associations, are trying to hide behind the argument that they are employees of Government of India, posted in J&K and hence do not fall under the purview of the SRO-164. ADGP Dilbag Singh (J&K Rifle Association and Distt Badminton Association), ADGP SM Sahai, (Hockey Association), Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology Parvaiz Malik ( J&K Rugby Association), ADGP Naveen Aggarwal, (Speed Ball Association) are prominent high ranking officers beside many others who are yet to seek permission from the government or tender their resignation from the positions held by them. It is pertinent to mention that the Governor had directed the General Administration Department (GAD) to ensure strict compliance of SRO -164 on February 5, 2015. The GAD in turn had issued a circular asking all government officers/officials to seek permission from the government if they sought to be in sports bodies of the state. |
