HC directs Govt to take all measures to curb H1N1 | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 2 : The state high court today directed government to take all precautionary and preventive steps to ensure that there was no further damage to human lives due to the swine flu in the Valley. "Respondents shall inform the Court as to what steps have been taken till date for treating patients who suffer from the disease and what is the paraphernalia in place to tackle the disease," a division bench of the court comprising Justice M H Attar and A H Margey said after admitting a PIL filed by an advocate. "In view of the issue raised in this petition which is of great public importance, it is deemed necessary to implead Ministry of Health, Government of India as party respondent in this petition," the bench said and issued notice which was by accepted by Assistant Solicitor General of India S. A. Makroo on behalf of the minister. "The issue raised in this petition is of serious nature, respondent-State, who is custodian of rights of people is duty bound to take all precautionary, preventive steps to ensure that the HIN1 influenza does not cause further damage to human lives," the court said and issued notice to state through Chief Secretary. The petitioner has stated that people from village to urban areas attend patients in the hospitals while there is huge crowded in premises of the High Court which need to be protected and special arrangement requires to be made in this behalf. He has urged the court to direct respondents to take necessary arrangements as precautionary measure by providing vaccination to the general public and make funds available in this behalf. He has also demanded respondents to take necessary measures for making drugs and vaccination available in the hospitals. Lastly, he sought directions to the respondents to make the vaccination of school going and employees of hospitals. |
