NC,PDP, BJP settle for two LC seats each | Er Rashid voted for NC | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 2: In a dramatic U turn in Legislative Council elections by independent MLA Er. Rashid, the National Conference candidate Qaser Jamsheed Lone today defeated Peoples Democratic Party candidate Saif ud Din Bhat of Angam Badgam on one of the two Kashmir province seats.. Before announcing his support to NC candidate, Engineer Rashid today appeared in front of the media outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Secretariat and showed the letter.in which the PDP condemned the hanging of parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, beside the party agreed in principal that it will raise the issue of return of Afzal Guru's mortal remains vigorously. As per the copy of the PDP statement circulated by MLA Engineer Rashid to media houses, a group of PDP Legislators comprises of Mohammad Khalil Band, Zahoor Ahmed Mir, Raja Manzoor Ahmed, Mohammad Abbas Wani, Yawar Dilawar Mir, Advocate Mohammad Yousaf, Ajaiz Ahmed Mir and Noor Mohammad Sheikh issued the statement which reads that "PDP has always maintained that late Afzal Guru's hanging was travesty of justice and constitutional requirements/process was not followed in hanging him out of turn", added that the way Guru was picked up from serial No. 28 and singled out has been condemned by PDP and it stands by the demand for return of his moral remains, and the party promises to follow vigorously for the return of the moral remains. "We believe that the resolution brought by Er. Rashid to seek clemency for late Afzal Guru was justified and should have been adopted by the house at that time" read the statement.. As soon as MLA Rashid circulated the PDP legislator's statement, a pal of gloom spread over the NC camp and Qaseer Jamsheed Lone was seen rushing back home into disappointment as he feels that it was all over for him. "We have won two seats, both me and Qaseer Jamsheed Lone were declared winners by Returning Officer after the counting of votes--- MLA Engineer Rashid has voted for us which ensure the victory of Qaseer Jamsheed Lone from Srinagar" said jubilant Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo whose victory was assured on one seat out of four from Jammu province. Kichloo extended his gratitude to all NC, Congress and independent MLA's who voted for them. While talking to media persons, NC General Secretary ruled out that any MLA cross voted for his party candidate, adding that it was Independent MLA Er. Rashid who voted for them along with CPI (M) MLA Mohammad Yousaf Tarigami and PDF Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen. While talking to Early times Returning Officer for LC election Mohammad Ramzan said that two candidates of National Conference Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Qaseer Jammsheed Lone, two candidates of BJP Vibodh Gupta, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa and two candidates of PDP Surinder Kumar Chowdhary and Javaid Ahmed Mirchel won the elections on six Legislative Council seats for which the election was held today. He said that all the political parties including BJP, PDP, NC, Congress and Peoples Conference under law used open ballot to cast their votes while CPI (M) MLA Mohammad Yousaf Tarighami, PDF Mohammad Hakim Yaseen, Independent MLA Er. Rashid and Independent MLA from Ladakh Aga Bakir Rizvi are single and did not show the vote to any of the party candidate agency at the time of costing of its vote. He said that NC's Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo and Qaseer Jamsheed Lone secured 30 votes each while BJP's Ramesh Arora has secured no vote. Among four MLA's Hakim Yaseen and Mohammad Yousaf Tarigami had already extended its support to NC-Congress candidates, while Aga Bakir Rizvi associated himself with PDP and the decisive vote of Er Rashid mattered at the end of the day. It is pertinent to mention that PDP in 2013 assured its support to Er. Rashid resolution seeking clemency for parliament convict Afzal Guru, but the resolution died down after PDP back tracked from its promise. The foul played by the Er. Rashid with PDP seems that the MLA played exactly in the same way like PDP did to Er. Rashid's resolution on parliament attack convict.
