Jammu, Mar 2: Jammu Students Morcha (JSM) has expressed grave concern over increasing incidents of molestation and harassment cases on the women in Jammu University and its peripheries. According to press release, it has criticized the university authorities for its failure to curb such incidents which have virtually become the order of the day. Addressing the press conference, JSM President Vikram Kumar alleged that the University has miserably failed to stop the continuous and increasing incidents of molestation and harassment of women, particularly scholars who have been living under great stress and trauma. A situation of complete lawlessness is prevailing in the university and its peripheries and the university authorities are turning a blind eye to the present situation," He said while pointing the recent incidents of molestation with scholar. Nothing has been done to protect the dignity of the female scholars and employees of the varsity. Vice Chancellor kept providing shelters to the culprits despite the regular and uninterrupted protests demonstrations by the JURSEA and other students associations and unions. The issue of harassment of Dogri scholar by her guide is also a sensitive issue and university authority is doing a mockery of the feminism. It can be said that university authority, in a way, is involved in promoting crime against women. The JSM leader said the University authorities seem to be in a slumber and they might have been waiting for a big tragedy. "It is the high time for the Chancellor NN Vohra as well to seriously look into the issue and initiate exemplary action against the culprits so that such incidents are stopped hereafter," He asserted. Among those who were present in the press-conference included, Rohit Gupta, Vikrant Singh, Raman Gupta and Anil Gupta. |
