Swine Flu Scare: Death toll reaches 9, 190 tested positive for H1N1 | Poor handling alleged | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, Mar 2 : Deaths due to swine flu outbreak seems unrestrained in Kashmir where one more death today took toll to nine in Jammu and Kashmir with 190 people tested positive for H1N1 virus amid continued allegations of lawlessness prevailing in Health department. According to sources one more patient died in SKIMS on Monday due to Swine flu. The patient identified as Rayees Ahmad Malik son of Mohammad Ayoub Malik, a resident of Malikgund Shopian in south Kashmir who was Patwari by profession died this morning after he was admitted in ICU as case of ARDS and was suspect of having H1N1, tested positive for influenza A. Sources said in last 24 Hours fresh cases were found positive for deadly Swine flu virus and amid huge rush of people visiting SKIMS these days for check up and treatment of H1N1 virus. Pertinently amid tall claims of health officials regarding facilities to patients and medical staff which include Doctors and Paramedical staff, one senior Resident Doctor at SKIMS informed Early Times that despite so much of hue and cry still basic necessities which is Tamiflu tablets for patients, vaccination, much needed protective gear to Doctors and Paramedical and important equipments of testing labs are lacking. Pertinently with fresh cases reported in last two days, total number of people tested positive for H1N1 reached 190 in Kashmir division alone and number of patients tested positive for Swine flu with each passing days is increasing alarmingly in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today in a statement to Early Times said that young healthy adults are dying of H1N1 which is a matter of serious concern. They said that a young male from Shopian who was admitted with acute respiratory illness at SKIMS after testing positive for H1N1 died in hospital today. President DAK and H1N1 expert, Dr Nisar ul Hassan said that there is a possible change in H1N1 virus as young healthy adults are dying in contrast to its known fatalities in high risk individuals. According to fresh data of the union Health Ministry regarding swine flu deaths and positive cases across the country, Swine flu has caused arround 849 deaths across the country since January, 2015 with states like Rajasthan and Gujarat being the worst-affected states and total number of swine flu cases has risen to 14,673 since January this year. |
