Tree talk organized in Bhaderwah Campus | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 5: Despite unprecedented rains and springtime snowfall, 336th Tree Talk was hosted at Institute of Mountain Environment at University Campus, Bhaderwah where staff members, teachers, nature lovers and researchers were participated here today. According to press release, the programme was organsied under the supervision of Dr Neeraj Sharma and OP Sharma. Dr Neeraj Sharma, HoD Institute of Mountain environment while welcoming tree talk enthusiasts emphasized conservation of mountain resources including fragile habitats which support economy of mountain people and forest biodiversity is of paramount importance in creating biomass related livelihoods under ecotourism. Tree Talk founder O P Sharma while focusing on World Wildlife Day held every year on 3rd March to commemorate ratification of CITES and regulation and utilization of biodiversity as per provisions of Indian Biodiversoty Act 2002. He further shared that species evolve in least disturbed environment and too much interference and greed based materialistic outlook to exploit bio resources in national international trade takes toll of rare and threatened plants and animals,loosing genes ,species and habitats has an impact on fragile mountain system and bearing on climate change impinging on health ,food and water security of not only mountain dwellers but other communities living in plains as well. Local resources need to be conserved sustainably, harvested and used judiciously,benefits of biodiversity exploitation ploughed back for mountain development and conservation of biodiversity. |
