Water re-enters into fields, incurs loss to farmers | | | Early Times Report
Samba, Mar 16: The heavy rains which are lashing the state since last few days has once again made flood water overflowing into agricultural fields further dashing the hopes of farmers to the grounds who see their standing crops dying in the Basantar and Devika floods. The agricultural field along with crops grown-up along the consistent embankments of the Devika river and Basantar comprising Burj Tanda, chak, Barota- camp, Khanpur-camp, Keso- Pakhari, rangoor -Camp, etc, where the flood water has been re-entered into the acres of the crop fields thus rendering loss to farming community. The residents of these low lying areas now are recalling the September 2014 floods and now again are looking towards the miseries attached to flood ravaging their fields after erosion of check Dam at Barota-Camp. Ex Sarpanch Kuldeep Kumar alongwith Kishan, Ashok and others told that the flood water has entered into our fields for atleast three times in a fortnight (15 days) and has incurred huge loss to farming community. Anchoring hopes, the locals have urged the Minister for Industries Chander Parkash Ganga to intervene immediately and redress their demand of rebuilding the Check dam. Meanwhile the concerned minister while assuring has stated that about estimate of Rs 50 lakh project of the said dam has been submitted to the centre and hoped it will be started soon once the fund will be released for its construction. |
