Pressure on Mufti to dissolve Assembly | Provoking revolt against govt | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 16: Forces inimical to the PDP-BJP coalition government have started ganging up. They are more against the PDP than the BJP and their charge is that the PDP has formed a government with the help of a party that is not just anti-Kashmir, but also anti-Muslims. They have expressed the hope that the people of Kashjmir would rise in revolt against the PDP-led coalition government. "But the people are not helpless, if there is a massive, deliberate flouting of the electorate's mandate. Jayaprakash Narayan showed the path in 1974 in Bihar. He demanded dissolution of the Assembly and quoted Dicey the great authority. On Constitutional Law: 'A dissolution is in its essence an appeal from the legal to the political sovereign. A dissolution is allowable, or necessary; whenever the wishes of the legislature are, or may fairly be presumed to be, different from the wishes of the nation. This applies perfectly to the J&K Assembly. Recalls apply to individual members who have betrayed the trust. For wholesale betrayal, the people can mount a peaceful agitation for the dissolution of the Assembly so that they can turn the betrayers of the regime out," one of the critics of the PDP said the other day while inciting the people of Kashmir against the PDP-led government. He, in fact, told the Kashmiri electorate that the PDP has betrayed them and their mandate for the sake of power and that it was time for them to imitate Jayaprakash Narayan and start a movement against the state government so that fresh elections are held in the state and a purely Kashmir-centric party forms next government. The critics have, at the same time, given an option to PDP leader and Chief Minister Mufti Mohamad Sayeed and the option is: He must dissolve the Assembly and hold fresh elections. "However, all is not lost. Mufti Mohammed Sayeed can yet redeem himself. He can advise the Governor to dissolve the Assembly and seek a fresh mandate with full acknowledgment of his mistake. But do not expect Mufti to do that. His forte is not the fight or struggle. Like Omar and Farooq Abdullah, his skills lie in clever tactics, if not secret intrigue. He is in office. He is not in power. The BJP judged him correctly," they have said. The story, in short, is that many have joined hands to paint the PDP black, opportunistic and power hungry, as also to create a situation in the Valley that leads to communal and separatist explosions in the Valley and create serious troubles there not only for the PDP but also the country as a whole. It will be seen if the PDP-led coalition government succeeds in neutralizing the influence of his critics on the Kashmiri society. The critics are not a few; their number is quite substantial. |
