Rana degrading Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan to upgrade himself | | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 16: Resentment and anguish is brewing amongst the loyal cadre of the National Conference in Jammu region who is accusing party's provincial president and MLA Nagrota of orchestrating a systematic erosion of the institution in a bid to project himself as the tallest leader of the party in the region. Those who have owed their allegiance to the National Conference and worked selflessly for the propagation of the party and its ideology in Jammu region have been particularly shaken by the manner in which the Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, party's provincial headquarters in Jammu, has been deprived of its sanctity and significance. The party workers and office bearers have expressed their deep anguish alleging that the provincial president had literally shifted the party head quarters to his private residence, utterly disregarding the poignant attachment that the cadre has with the place. "Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan is not just a building; for us it signifies a thought that was the very basis of National Conference and we are sadden by the manner in which provincial president has eroded its importance" said a party office bearer. "I have fond memories of our tall leaders who used to come here and listen to grievances of the people, but now, this place has lost its significance as certain leaders want to project themselves greater than the party and hence ask party workers to come to their residence rather than the Party HQ" he added. Another worker rued that even when Rana came to the party head quarters, he behaved like a Chief Minister, and party workers hardly got an opportunity to interact with him. "Rana after taking over as the provincial president had conspired to usurp the Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan and Aslam Goni, then political advisor to Farooq Abdullah became first casualty of his agenda. He not only drove him off, but also captured his room" said another party worker, alleging that Rana was now telling workers and his own supporters from his constituency to come to his residence. "This bid to increase his own clout at the cost of the party" he said. It is pertinent to mention here that NC leaders like Shiekh Nazir had stayed at Sher-i- Kashmir Bhawan and the party's provincial HQ reverberated with political activity with workers and office bearers of the party lining up to meet the party leadership and party MLAs and Ministers. |
