All is not well; 'health sector' Rajouri facing shortage of doctors, staff | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Apr 18: Amid tall claims of streamlining healthcare facilities with appointment of sanctioned strength of doctors and other Paramedical staff at Health Centres in the State seemed to fall flat as for as the District Hospital Rajouri and other health institutions are concerned majority are facing acute shortage of required strength of doctors/paramedical staff which is being managed by interim arrangements by the concerned health authorities. What to mention of health institutes in remote areas, the District Hospital Rajouri, which caters to the requirements of more than 7 lakh people of Rajouri district and and some parts of Reasi district itself is ailing due to shortage of consultant doctors, B-Grade Specialists doctors and Assistant Surgeons. Recently Health department had transferred six senior doctors including only consultant medicine (physician specialist), Dr Jamil-ul-Hassan while five doctors who were transferred to District Hospital at Rajouri only two namely Sanjeev Gupta, pediatric specialist and Shahnaz Bhatti, B-grade Gynecologist have joined their duties but duo went on leave reasons better known to them. "Remaining three including two Anesthetists (B-grade and junior) and one B-grade Orthopedic yet have not joined their duties till today, said Medical Superintendent District Hospital Rajouri Dr Mehmood Bajar. As per details collected by The Early Times, the posts of A- grades Gynecologist, Ophthalmologist (blindness), Orthopedic surgeon are still lying vacant in this hospital. Further out of two sanctioned posts of B-grade Surgeon one is lying vacant, both the posts of B-grade Physician specialists are lying vacant (Dr Jamil-ul-Hassan was not relieved yet), both the posts of B-grade Anesthetists are lying vacant while out of 22 sanctioned posts of Assistant Surgeons five yet lying vacant and sanctioned posts of Homeopathy Medical Officers still are lying vacant while no Blood Bank Officer was posted at this District Hospital. Ironically Computerized Tomography (CT) Scanner unit installed in this hospital since 2012 is failed toi see the light till today. As the concerned authorities have failed to provide Radiologist for operating the unit though two Radiologists were transferred to this hospital but they didn't join at Rajouri due to alleged nexus within the department and managed their postings at Jammu. "In absence of functional CT Scan unit even a patient with minor head injuries have to refer to Jammu resulting in extra financial burden on the poor people of the district" said a senior doctor on the condition of anonymity. Not only District Hospital Rajouri, other hospitals including Sub District Hospitals (SDHs) at Nowshera, Darhal, Sunderbani and Kakalkot and Community Health Centres (CHCs) at Kotranka, Thanamandi and Manjakot too are also in a dire need of due staff strength and required medicines. Sub District Hospital (SDH) Darhal is being run by two doctors and Block Medical Officer and as of sanctioned eight posts of doctors seven are lying vacant while at SDH Nowshera of sanctioned seven post five are lying vacant. |
