BJP betraying both Jammu, Ladakh | Rigzin making a point | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 18: The people of Jammu region are extremely unhappy with the BJP. The reason is that it has surrendered everything to Kashmir to appease and pamper the Valley. It had promised to consider the issue of delimitation and citizenship rights for refugees from West Pakistan, but it did nothing in this regard to conciliate the people of Jammu region and West Pakistan refugees. Instead, it took the line the NC and Congress had taken on these issues. It had talked about Dogra certificate in its vision document, which was without a vision, but instead of conceding the demand of the Jammu Dogras it became a party to the government decision which rejected the very valid demand. The BJP had on February 28, 2015 promised an All-India Institute of Medical sciences for Jammu, but it conspired against the people of the region with whose support it is in the government and endorsed the Governor's Address which said that the sanctioned AIIMS will be established in Kashmir. The governor's Address was prepared by the state cabinet in which five out 15 ministers were from the BJP. They willfully and happily approved what could be described as anti-Jammu address. There are many acts of omission and commission committed by the BJP during the past 50 says or so which have all dashed the hopes of the people of Jammu region to the ground and the result is anger in Jammu on an unprecedented scale against the BJP. The situation in Ladakh is no different. The people of Ladakh, who for the first time elected the BJP candidate to the Lok Sabha, too have been feeling cheated and badly let down. Reports are that the party Lok Sabha MP, Thupstan Chhewang is also not happy with the BJP leadership. There are reasons for the people of Ladakh to feel humiliated and neglected. The BJP, which always talked about UT status for the region, didn't talk about it in its vision document and the result was that the BJP failed to win even a single seat out of four Assembly seats from the region. It suffered a massive and humiliating defeat at the hands of the Congress which for the first time in 67 years won three seats and the remaining fourth seat went to an independent candidate. It is Congress party leader from the region Rigzin Jora who has started taking up the Ladakhi cause in a big way. Ever since the formation of the coalition government, he has been accusing the BJP of betrayal with Ladakh by "compromising its interests, wishes, aspirations, dignity and honour". "Status quo suited them politically, but the interests of Ladakh have compelled me to raise the issue with the BJP," he has been saying. He is, in addition, putting certain pertinent questions and his questions are: "Does Ladakh not deserve more than just a Minister of State for Cooperatives with independent charge? What happened to the slogan of equitable share of power and equitable development of all three regions of the state?" He has also been ridiculing the BJP saying "If this is BJP style of equity, God help them". "The BJP should not forget that Ladakh had given it an important seat in Parliament" and all important decisions concerning development and administrative matters were taken by the Cabinet. Depriving Ladakh a voice in the Cabinet was the worst form of insult, humiliation and deprivation that the BJP could mete out to Ladakh," he has been telling the BJP and warning it that the "sooner the BJP realizes this, the better it will be for its own interest". "Nothing hurts them more than humiliation and that is what the BJP has done to them," has been his argument. It is difficult to say if the BJP refashions its approach towards Jammu and Ladakh. In fact, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday reasserted that the Common Minimum Programme has done justice to all the regions and it is committed to implementing it. |
