Hanjura, Gupta take stock of crop damages in Udhampur | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Apr 18: Minister for Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura today visited various areas included Tikri and Mand East villages in Udhampur district and took stock of damages caused to standing crops, vegetables and fruits due to recent rains and hailstorm. Hanjura assured the farmers that the Government is aware of their problems and directions have already been given for constitution of joint teams of Revenue and Agriculture departments to assess the losses. He said compensation would be given to the deserving farmers after proper assessment of damages. He was accompanied by the Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology Pawan Kumar Gupta, Director Agriculture Jammu Dr S S Jamwal, Director Command Area Jammu H K Sharma, Director Sericulture Dr Malik Farooq, Additional District Development Commissioner Ajay Singh Jamwal and other senior officers of Agriculture, Revenue, Command Area Development and Sericulture departments. Hanjura said the PDP-BJP coalition Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is committed to provide better basic amenities to the people. He said special thrust is being given to develop agriculture as 70 percent of population depends on it. He said several centrally sponsored schemes have been launched in the State for the welfare of the farmers and the farming community must avail the benefits of these schemes. The Minister directed the officers of Agriculture and Sericulture departments to organize awareness camps and workshops at block levels so that maximum farmers draw benefits of these schemes. He also asked them to conduct survey and identify the deserving farmers and issue Kissan Credit Cards in their favour. Earlier, Hanjura reviewed the functioning of agriculture and sericulture departments at an officers' meeting at Dak Banglow Udhampur. The meeting was informed that Rs 1 crore would be spent, during the current year, for development of 100 hectare cluster of land for the conservation of soil and water and promotion of apiculture, vegetables, mushroom and allied sectors under National Food Security Mission (NFSM). Minister for Agriculture instructed the officers to work with utmost dedication and utilize the available funds in full and judiciously. He also asked the concerned to ensure availability of seeds, fertilizers, agriculture implements, pesticides and other inputs for the farmers. Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology Pawan Kumar Gupta stressed for conservation of gene pool of local Rajmash of Udhampur district. He also called for development of Kessar, Mushroom and Cocoon production in the area. The farmers, Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area apprised the Minister about the damage to the wheat, mustard, pulses and vegetable crops due to stagnation of water for long time and damage to the roots of crops. They demanded construction of check dams and tube wells in Tikri area. The Minister gave them patient hearing and assured them that their genuine demands would be looked into. Hanjura assured them that construction of Check dams and Tube Wells would be taken up with the concerned quarter for early redressal. |
