Cong hits out at BJP for remaining mum on Geelani's anti-India rally | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Apr 18: The self-proclaimed "patriotic" BJP has maintained a "blind eye and deaf ear" towards biggest ever anti-India rally in Kashmir Valley in the recent past. When radical leader Masrat Alam along with hardcore Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani were shouting deafening anti-India and pro-Pakistan slogans in the Valley amidst Pakistani flags, senior "nationalist" BJP leaders were also in the Valley. Congress activist Naresh Sharma said this while staging protest against yesterday's incidence of raising anti-nation slogans and waving Pakistan flags at Srinagar during a rally organized by separatists. Separatist leader Masrat Alam, released from jail just weeks back, on Wednesday unfurled Pakistan's flag at Lal Chowk of Srinagar. The Hurriyat hardliner, released from Baramulla prison last month by the PDP-BJP coalition government, was standing amidst a mob and holding an anti-India rally. He was raising anti-India slogans to greet pro-Pakistan leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani of the Hurriyat. Naresh Sharma recalling BJP as part of the game said that yesterday's rally has reminded the people about late 90s when such rallies were routine affairs. "First time during the last few years such rally has been organized which was flooded with Pakistani flags and echoed with pro-Pakistan and anti-India sloganeering", he added. Naresh Sharma said that it is result of weak policies of the BJP government at the Centre and indecisiveness of the state unit of BJP that anti-India elements have become so active in Kashmir Valley. Reacting to the development, Congress leader slammed the PDP-BJP alliance and said that they have released a man who holds strong anti-India views. "The first step that BJP and PDP did in J&K was to release Masrat Alam, a man responsible for stone-pelting and anti-India slogans. It's unfortunate, the incidents that are unfolding in Srinagar," Congress leader Pankaj Sharma said. |
