Kalakote anganwari centres lying “defunct”, black marketing of ration alleged | | | AJAY SHARMA KATRA, May 01 As all the anganwari centres of Kalakote in Rajouri were said to be lying defunct for the past nearly seven months, locals alleged that the ration meant for them was being sold in black market by the officials concerned. There are 210 anganwari centre under ICDS, Kalakote. In all these centres, children below the age of five years are provided nutritious diet. Since all these centres were alleged to be lying defunct for past about seven months, locals have asked the authorities concerned to explain where the ration meant for them has been kept by them. Their allegation that the ration was being sold in black is not baseless. A few days back, police had arrested two anganwari workers – Karnail Singh and Mohammad Shehraz of Kalakote -- while they were allegedly selling the government ration which was to be supplied to anganwari centres in the area. They alleged that none of the helpers and workers were coming to the anganwari centres nowadays. Kalakote CDPO Bhumika Sharma did not pick the phone despite the repeated calls made to her this evening. She later switched off her cellphone. ICDS Mission Director said he had already been receiving complaints against the improper functioning of anganwari centres at Kalakote. A strict action would be taken against the guilty.
