Police denies report of attack on Gurdawara in Kishtwar | DC Kishtwar constitutes team to ascertain ownership rights of disputed structure | | Asif Iqbal Naik Jammu May 1: Refuting the reports of attack on Gurdawar in Kishtwar District, senior police officers said that some miscreants were spreading rumors of attack on Gurdawara situated in Ward No. 5 of Municipal Committee Kishtwar to vitiate the atmosphere and appealed to the people not to take any cognizance of such rumours. While talking to “Early Times”, SSP Kishtwar Yoghal Manhas said that there is a dispute over the ownership right between the Gurdawara committee and the Sanatan Dharam Sabha Kishtwar on a portion of building; used for accommodation of the poor people visiting Kishtwar. He said that after the matter came into the notice of administration, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan along with him immediately rushed to the spot and started i investigation. He said the reports of attack on Gurdawara were baseless. After hearing both the parties, DC Kishtwar advised them to submit the documents of ownership claim by both the parties and directed the Tehsildar Kishtwar to seal the disputed area till the matter was solved amicably. Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner today constituted a team headed by Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sudarshan Salaria to probe the ownership of the disputed land so that the same could be handed over to the genuine party. The members from Gurdawara Committee and President Sanatan Dharam Sabha will be the part of the investigating team. The committee will submit the factual report within 10 days. The eyewitnesses informed the “Early Times” that the dispute started after the students vacated the disputed room couple of days ago as a result of which the care-taker of the Gurdawara entered inside these rooms and the same was objected to by some people who claimed that the rooms belong to Santan Dharam Sabha and the same was being used to provide accommodation to poor people, particularly to the students. “As soon as the caretaker of the Gurdawara was asked to vacate the rooms--- he turned violent as a result of which there was a heated exchange between the two parties--- there was no attempt made by anyone to attack the Gurdawara” said eyewitnesses. However with an aim to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of Kishtwar and Jammu region, some miscreants taking the advantage of the situation started spreading the rumors through social media blaming RSS and Hindu wings for the attack on Sikhs and Gurdawara which actually never took place. It is pertinent to mention that Kishtwar town and its vicinity has no registered Sikh population and all the members of the Sikh Community settled in Kishtwar District are outsiders settled in the town for business forlast 20 years. Keeping in view of the religious sentiments of the Sikh community, local inhabitant Babi Chand Kotwal donated the land to Sikh community for construction of Gurdawara while another local inhabitant Mulla Ram donated the land to Santan Dharam Sabha for construction of Bal Ashram and Ram Leela ground situated next to each other. |
