One sealed in Bandipora; teachers got salary for no work | Many govt schools exist on papers only | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 1: Bandipora district administration on Thursday sealed a government primary school where not a single student was present and the teachers (two sisters) were found doing their household work as the school was housed in their house. On the directions of Education Minister Syed Naeem Akhtar Andrabi, the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora raided an illegally created at Bhuttoo Mohalla Bandipora. The school was sealed, as there were no students present. Fake enrolments had been shown in the documents. Both the teachers who had been appointed as Rehbar-e-Taleems (ReTs) many years ago and later regularized were suspended and departmental inquiry against the ZEO was initiated. The school existed on papers only. The manipulated records show that 11 students were enrolled in the school. However, on enquiry it was found that five students out of the 11 were studying in a private school namely Gulshan Public School. The primary school was housed in the home of the two teachers who also happen to be sisters. The school, according to official records, was created under SSA scheme in 2005 in open violation of SSA norms as both the sisters were appointed as ReTs under SSA and few years ago they got regularized as well. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shah Feasal while talking to Early Times said he visited the school at 11 am on Thursday and found it locked. “Both teachers who happen to be residing in the same house where the school is located were found doing household work,” he said. He said the display board of the school was also not erected and was hidden in one of the rooms of the so-called school. He said no one in the vicinity knew the location of the school. “Five students were found studying in other school, one was admitted under fictitious name and particulars of the rest were fabricated,” Feasal added. DC Bandipora suspended both the teachers and seized the record of the school and Chief Education Officer has been asked to identify more such fake schools operating in the district so that culprits are brought to book. Pertinently, many such schools are located in nook and corner of the state as SSA schools were created under political pressure in various parts of state especially during the last six years. Reports from Shopian reveal that some one dozen fake schools are operating in Kunju, Tukroo and Mazhama villages and local residents have appealed Education Minister and DC Shopian to seal such schools without any delay.
