No free uniform for School children in Doda | Where have funds gone? | | Bijay Charak
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 20: Two years on children of government schools in Doda district await free uniform despite availability of funds for the same. Where have the funds gone, the question lurks in everybody's mind. Reliable sources informed Early Times that in the year 2013 Union Government had sanctioned funds to state government on the account of implementation of the Right to Education Act in J&K, but state government has failed to utilize the funds timely. Till date school authorities have only distributed 50 percent uniforms. The object of the scheme was to bring the children belonging from Scheduled Class, Other Backward Class, Scheduled Tribes and Below Poverty Line but in Doda district at par with other children. But the school authorities have failed and thereby defeated the very object of the scheme. It is pertinent to mention here that providing uniform to children, especially girls, is one of the provisions of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan. In the past, the system of distributing uniform was under the state education department which got the uniforms stitched according to the demand of each school. The uniform was then distributed among the students. But in previous year, the task was handed over to the school authorities themselves", they said. When contacted Chief Education Planning Officer Doda accepted the delay and said that previous year government has sanctioned funds and same time, the CEO office forwarded funds in the account of head of school institutions, and also directed them to distribute uniform within time but most of the institution yet not prepared the list of students who deserved. "I hope that current year all government school would be covered", he said. |
