HC’s notice to PCI in PIL on release of separatist Masrat Alam | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 9: In a PIL on the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam, a high court division bench of Justice D S Thakur and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal today issued notice to Press Council of India (PCI) and others. When the matter came up, it was argued that within a day's time, media had made Masrat Alam from unknown individual to the leader of separatists. They argued that only 100 people gathered in some corner of the valley, raised anti-national slogans and unfurled Pakistani Flags but it is the media that must be held responsible for this as it publicised the matter in such a way that whole valley is anti-National. Moreover, rather than showing the life history of freedom fighters like Gandhiji,Bhagat Singh and many more, media houses gave an account of the life history of Masrat Alam as if he was a freedom fighter or an actor of our country. Senior advocate S S Lehar stressed that PCI should take necessary steps so that such news items were not carried and publicised in future. The bench took serious note of the same and issued notice to PCI and directed it to file status report within six weeks(JNF). |
