Cloud burst wreaks havoc in Phathar | 25 structures, factory damaged | | Bijay Charak
Jammu, July 9: Massive rain and cloud burst wreaked havoc in upper reaches of Phathar village near Bantalab last night. Reports said flash floods caused extensive damage to scores of structures including Vishakha Orthopedic Appliances factory, poultry farms, culverts, roads and electric poles. Owner of Vishakha Orthopedic Appliances Factory Dev Bhardwaj said that at least six small vehicles (Cars) were washed away while water entered many houses and shops causing extensive damage to the property. The flood also caused soil erosion at many places of Phathar and the downwards areas while standing crops also suffered damage. "Around 25 houses walls were damaged while his factory Vishakha Orthopedic Appliances raw material, machinery and furnished products worth crores were fully damaged", he said. Bhardwaj further said that the sudden flash flood was witnessed at around 4 am (midnight) after cloud burst in the upper reaches of Phather. "The people were fast asleep. They woke up when water entered their respective places amid what the residents said was a modest rainfall. Bhardwaj further said the level of water was 4 to 5 ft in some areas. "The boundary wall of my factory was damaged by water which later caused extensive damage to the machinery," he said. Half a dozen bridges, electric poles and transformers at a few locations suffered damage as a result of which power supply to the area was snapped. Sarpanch Sukhdev Singh expressing concern over the losses urged the district administration to take immediate relief measures for the suppliers. The concerned Teshildar, Naib Teshildar, officials of the concerned police station visited the area to take stock of the situation. |
