PDP-BJP regime's war against corruption seems to be selective, half-hearted | Why State Govt not initiating further action on pipes scam? | | ET Report JAMMU, July 9: Contrary to the claims of the coalition government to eradicate the menace of corruption, the PDP-BJP government is sitting on report of inquiry committee which had detected huge bungling in the purchase of pipes two years back. These pipes were purchased when Congress leader Taj Mohiuddin was holding the portfolio of Public Health Engineering (PHE), Flood Control and Irrigation in the government. The way State Government has ignored pipes scam committed by the previous NC-Congress government is indicating that present regime's war against corruption in selective and half-hearted. Credible sources in the corridors of powers disclosed matter was brought before the government but response of the concerned was not encourging despite the fact that inquiry panel had established huge bungling in purchases while resulted to huge loss to the state exchequer. The three member enquiry committee which had submitted its report two years back had pinpointed that pipes were purchased on higher prices. The Enquiry Committee was constituted by the Administrative Department PHE vide government order No 107 PW (Hyd) of 2013 dated 02-04-2013 to conduct inquiry into alleged irregularities in the procurement of PE AL PE composite piers by the PHE (Mechanical) Procurement Division Jammu and Srinagar. The Committee in its report had detected large scale irregularities and pointed out that purchases have been approved by the Purchase Committee from the agency which has not even participated in the bid or auction. The Enquiry Committee had detected that undue favour was given to a private agency and pipes were purchased on higher rates despite the fact that some other agencies had offered lower rates for the same pipes. |
