KPs to observe July 13 as Black Day | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 9: As usual Kashmiri Pandits will observe the July 13 as Black Day this year too. The decision to this effect has been taken almost by all KP organizations to observe the day as black day and they have also urged the government to cancel the gazetted holiday on the day. Recently a delegation of KPs led by PK president and leader of KPs Joint Forum Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo had met the Minister in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and submitted a memorandum to him in this regard. The delegation had demanded that the Union Government should intervene in the matter and declare the Accession Day on October 26 as a State Day and gazetted holiday instead of July 13. Not only the PK and Joint Forum of KP organizations but almost all KP organizations including All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference, Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) All India Kashmiri Pandit Conference (AIKPC), Kashmir Samiti Delhi and Jammu Kashmir Vichar Manch (JKVM) have strongly advocated for cancellation of gazetted holiday on July 13 as on this day minorities of Kashmir were attacked by the communalist elements on the behest of a foreigner who waged a war against the Maharaja on communal grounds. The KP organizations said when there is one martyrs day all over the country why a separate Martyrs Day is being observed in J&K as the same has no relevance. Kundan Kashmir president (KPC), while opposing the observance of July 13 as Martyrs Day said that it has no relevance in the history of J&K and the day was only observed as a gazetted holiday after Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah was installed as Chief Minister in 1975. He said even prior to that the Congress Government in the State gave no legitimacy to the day as on this day the minorities in Kashmir while done to death, their property razed to ground and looted. Kashmiri has appealed the community to observe the day as black day as usual to give a message to the entire country that its observance as a Martyrs Day is not justified. He urged the KP community members to wear black badges on the day and switch off the lights of their houses from 7 pm to 8pm as a mark of protest against the attack on community members on this day in 1931 in Kashmir Valley. JKVM leaders Shiban Ji Hakoo has also demanded that instead of July 13 October 26 the Accession Day be declared as a State Day and gazetted holiday. He said KP organizations should hold wide spread protests on the day and give a clear signal to the Government that people of Jammu, Kashmiri Pandits and people of Ladakh as well meaning people in Kashmir Valley are totally opposed to observing this Day as Martyrs Day. |
