Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 31: In a bizarre incident of mal-practices reported in government set up besides tall claims of the streamlining the system, the extent of unethical and unprofessional conduct could be gauged from the reply to an RTI from Block Development Officer (BDO) Hiranagar which exposed that huge amount upto Rs 94000/- has been withdrawn against an undone construction work at Mohalla Tibbi Ward- 6 Manglore (East) Panchayat of Hiranagar.
Astonishingly, the concerned Panchayat body too also seen allegedly involved in the grafting menace and took the gullible rural folks on the ride over the issue of construction of street in the said locality. The grafting case has come into limelight through an RTI, filed by Kewal Krishan, a RTI activist and social worker. While interacting to media, Kewal Krishan said, "Rural Development Department withdrew Rs 94800 from CDF of former MLA Dr Manohar Lal Sharma for undone work in 2014." "The said street has been constructed according to paper but nothing has been done at ground level, RTI activist said, adding, "the street and different walk-paths were constructed 5 years ago under different CD Funds. The street has been broken down three years ago." He said former MLA sanctioned and BDO Hiranagar withdrew fund for the same street that astonished people who triggered protest earlier but all was in vain. He said RTI exposed the menace and corrupt attitude of the officers.Ram Paul another villager demanded severe inquiry against such corrupt officers and even involvement of politician if any. He said if the amount was withdrawn it should have been utilized properly so that people may not suffer due to bad road connectivity. Pertinent to mention that Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh who got elected from constituency in JK Assembly have assured to take action against corrupt officers and people of this village reminding him of his assurances and appealed him to intervene the matter.
