Shady NGO duping people in Kashmir | Public seek Crime Branch's intervention | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 31: A so-called NGO with fishy character is busy minting money from youth of Kashmir by promising to provide jobs to them. The NGO namely Regional Social Welfare and Rural Development recently gave a half page advertisement in some local dailies of Srinagar seeking applications from eligible candidates for filling around 600 posts of managers, assistant managers, accountants, accounts officers, front desk assistants, junior assistants, plumbers, electricians, etc in 10 districts of the Valley. The so-called NGO is pretending as if it is some government organization. In the advertisement it says that preference will be given to section officer, assistant director, under secretary or equivalent in central or state government for the post of district manager for which net salary is shown as Rs 19500. How can a section officer or assistant director apply for this post as the in-service section officer gets much better salary? The people who intend to apply for these posts are told to deposit an amount of Rs 200, and as per information gathered by the Early Times, from the last two days more than 5000 people have already applied. To lure over-aged unemployed people, the fishy NGO has kept 42 years as the upper age for applying for these posts. Nearly two years ago a similar advertisement appeared in some local dailies which was issued by another fishy Jammu & Kashmir Rural Development Coordinating Society (JKRDCS). Hundreds of unemployed youth had applied for the jobs, but later on it was found that the NGO was a fraud, prompting the duped youth to hold protests. The fraud was unearthed by the police in 2013. The police had even arrested three persons who were running that NGO. The police had seized the accounts of that NGO which had by then amassed millions of rupees. "We have got information that one of the members of JKRDCS namely Mehraj is said to be a partner in the Regional Social Welfare and Rural Development, and the style of looting the unemployed is also same. We appeal the Crime Branch to take action against this so-called NGO and probe its credentials" said Shahid Ahmad Dar from Rajbagh, Srinagar "There are many NGOs working in J&K . Even the international organisations with lot of budget cannot afford to give employment to more than 40 people in their organization. How can an NGO that is not known to people claim to give employment to 600 people? I would appeal government to probe into this mess " said Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, an RTI activist. |
