JU holds exams despite bandh | | | Mohd Irfan Early Times Report
jAMMU, Aug 3: In wake of the Jammu bandh, which was complete for the fourth consecutive day today, the normal life remained affected. The call of bandh has been given by AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) for setting up an AIIMS in Jammu. As public transport remained off the roads, Vaishnodevi pilgrims, who continue to come here different parts of the country, faced difficulties in the absence of buses and cabs. At the railway station, tourists and pilgrims were seen craving for transport to reach their respective destinations. They alleged that those, who were plying their autorickshas on the inner city roads, were charging excessive fare from them. As vegetable markets are also closed in view of the strike, vendors were seen selling whatever they had on exorbitant rates. As the holy Amaranth Yatra is also in progress, the administration was facing a lot of hardships in providing them facilities. The bandh has also badly affected the city business as pilgrims and tourists were not able to buy anything from them due to the strike. It is pertinent to mention that Jammu University has issued a circular, asking the students not to get lured by bandh as it would mar their precious career and saying that no exam of the university would be postponed unless and until there was a proper notification of postponement by the university administration. The ever busy roads of the city also wore a deserted look and the usual hustle bustle in the markets was missing. Meanwhile, Bar Association president Abhinav Sharma today flagged off four buses for the yatris. The government must take some immediate decision in this regard so that the pilgrims and others, who were coming here from outside the state, were not put to any more inconvenience. |
