Legislator backs off to keep Hizbul happy | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 3: A legislator, who keeps on hogging the headlines, for one or other reasons is believed to have facilitated the return of Tariq Mir's body to his family members. The body of Mir, a close aide of Qayoom Najar, the commander of the breakaway Hizbul group Lashkar-e-Islam, was fished out from river Jehlum in north Kashmir's Bandipora district this morning. Sources said a Kashmiri legislator tried his best to use the opportunity to get publicity for himself. "Initially the legislator had planned that he would visit the Sumbal police station to seek the body of the deceased militant and would call the media to derive the political mileage out of the incident." "The legislator," sources said, "Changed his plan after he came to know that the deceased is an accomplice of Qayoom Najar, who has challenged the supremacy of Syed Salahuddin the self styled commander of the PoK based militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen." Salahuddin last month had issued a statement disowning Najar and his group Lashkar-e-Islam and alleged that they had killed innocents in Sopore area. Sources said the legislator changed his plan as he didn't want to annoy the separatists and Hizbul-Mujhaideen but he ensured that Mir's body is handed over to his family. |
