Bhaderwah, Aug 3: The Bhaderwah-Doda road remained closed for second consecutive day, causing great inconvenience to the people.
According to sources, due to continuous landslides near Sanai area the Bhaderwah-Doda road remained closed for second consecutive day. Due to closure of the road, the people residing in various areas of tehsil Bhaderwah are facing various problems due to shortage of ration, kerosene oil and medical facilities.
The 30-kilometer long Bhaderwah Doda road was closed for vehicular movement following major landslide yesterday evening near Sanai area. The work to clear the landslides from the road is on as around 20-meter stretch of the road was badly damaged by the landslide. Due to the closure of the road, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of roads said Tehsildar Bhalla, Bhaderwah Babu Ram Chowdhary, adding that men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were working to clear the road, he said and expressed hope that road will be thrown open for traffic tomorrow.
The sudden closure of the road forced hundreds of vehicles including goods carrying vehicles to halt at several places on the Doda Bhaderwah road, he informed. "Passengers are not stranded as they are crossing the damaged stretch by foot from other side of the area to take another vehicle from the other side near Seri village," he said.
He said that the work to open the highway was going on as district administration and BRO pressed seven machines and if the weather remains clear the road will be thrown open for vehicular traffic tomorrow.
"If there is no rain, we might throw the road open by tomorrow, but continued landslides were creating problems for the road clearing operation," Babu Ram said. DDC Doda Bupinder Kumar and SSP Doda Zahid Naseem Manhas also visited the landslide hit Sanai area and instructed the BRO to immediately open the road for traffic. The people have appealed the concerned authorities to remove the landslides and make the road through for vehicular movement at the earliest.
