Hurriyat not representative of Kashmiris: Civil Society | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 25: The silence maintained by Kashmiri Pandit organizations and other nationalist forces for their failure in countering Hurriyat Conference and other separatist organizations claim of being a party to dispute has been a cause of concern for the people of the state in general and displaced Pandits in particular. The claims made by the separatist Hurriyat Conference and other separatist organizations that they are the sole representatives of the Kashmir who be included in any sort of talks with Pakistan has drawn a flake from the people in all three regions of the State who have also criticized the nationalist forces and the KP organizations for maintaining total silence over it. The nationalist and Kashmiri Pandit organizations who are the main sufferers of the Pak sponsored proxy war in the State and have not thought it proper to counter the separatist Hurriyat by making their loud claim on Kashmir, said Dilip Kaul a Kashmiri migrant putting up in Faridabad. He said the Pandits who are the aborigines of Valley having a cultural history of over 5000 years are the main party to Kashmir and Hurriyat as well as Pakistan has no locus standi on it. He regretted that the main KP organizations like Panun Kashmir, All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS), All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) as have not uttered even a single word to counter Pakistan for inviting Hurriyat leadership to NSA level talks in New Delhi recently. By maintaining a silence over the issue these organizations have given a legitimacy to Hurriyat and weakened their 26 year long struggle against the Pak sponsored terrorism. Kaul is not the only Kashmiri Pandit but there are many more displaced people who have resentment against the role of their organizations on the issue. Raj Kumar a social activist in Gurgoan Haryana said it is unfortunate that no KP organization came forward to counter Pakistan and Hurriyat claim and challenge them openly. The Hurriyat has no right claim over Kashmir as the conglomerate has no representation in the State. J&K has a democratically elected government and over 70 percent people voted in Assembly and Parliamentary elections of last year so how can the Hurriyat can make a claim that it represents the Kashmiris, he added. He said the Government of India should not give any legitimacy to the conglomerate as its existence is only because of gun culture otherwise it has no takers in the Valley. ``Hurriyat has succeeded in maintaining its monopoly in Kashmir only through gun otherwise the common masses are not with it'', he added. In addition to KPs the nationalist people in other parts of the State have also expressed their dismay over the silence maintained by the mainstream parties in not countering the Hurriyat's claim over Kashmir. S S Bhandari a member of civil society said that Dogras of Jammu, Gujjars and Bakerwals, Paharis, members of Shia community, people of Ladakh and Kashmiri Pandits who constitute over 75 percent of State's population have the main claim over Kashmir and Hurriyat which represents only 10 percent people of the State should not be attached any importance. Tilak Raj Shan another member of the civil society in the State also expressed the same views saying that the Hurriyat has no claim over Kashmir and the conglomerate is the agent of Pakistan who is responsible for present turmoil and 26 year long blood shed in Kashmir. |
