Mainstream political leaders in Jammu blame Pakistan for double speak | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 31:Senior leaders belonging to the PDP, the National Conference and the BJP feel intrigued over what they call dubious attitude of Pakistan vis-à-vis its relations with India. The including Nizam-ud-Din Bhat of PDP, Ashok Khajuria of the BJP and Devender Singh Rana of the NC are aghast over the latest statements from leaders in Pakistan. They said that on one hand Islamabad has renewed its pledge to promote cordial ties with New Delhi by resolving various bilateral issue through the process of dialogue on the other hand the Pakistan Defence Minister has threatened to hit hard India in case there was war between the two sides. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has told US National Security Advisor Susan Rice that Pakistan wants a "meaningful" and "objective" dialogue with India on all outstanding issues, amid reports that Rice is in Islamabad on an "emergency visit" in the wake of Indo-Pak border tensions. In his meeting with Rice, Sharif, while talking about ties with India, informed the US delegation the reasons behind the cancellation of talks between NSAs of India and Pakistan. Sharif said Pakistan wants to hold a "meaningful" and "objective" dialogue on all outstanding issues with New Delhi. But on the other hand Pakistan's Defence Minister has warned India that it will suffer "heavy losses" which it would "remember for decades" if it tries to "impose" a war on Pakistan. Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif said "Pakistan's armed forces will defend every inch of Pakistan at every cost"."If India tries to impose war on Pakistan, heavy losses will be inflicted on India which it will remember for decades," the Minister said. Asif said "cowardly acts" by Indian forces have strengthened the determination of the nation to defend the motherland, state-run Radio Pakistan reported. "India's real face is exposed as it is supporting terrorism in Pakistan and creating tension on borders through unprovoked firing along the working boundary and line of control," he said. Senior BJP leaders in Jammu have ridiculed Asif's allegations on the plea that during the last over one year Pakistani troops have resorted to repeated ceasefire violations killing civilians and forcing several thousand families, living on this side of the IB in Jammu to flee to safer places. The mainstream political leaders in Jammu have blamed Pakist an for having scuttled the proposed NSA level talks. They have stated that there was no urgency on Islamabad to have a meeting ahead of the NSA level talks with Kashmiri separatists when New Delhi had made it clear that the NS level talks were simply bilateral engagement. They said that the Pakistan Defence Minister seems to live in a make believe because the stunning defeat Pakistani troops suffered in 1947,1965,1971 and the Kargil conflict has demonstrated the defence strength of India. |
