Shopian resident cheats authorities; gets job under SRO-43 | In J&K, 8-yr-old child can adopt 30-yr-old man! | | Avinash Azad Early Times Report jammu, Aug 31: Believe it or not, a man got a government job in J&K in 2006 after he convinced the authorities that he was adopted by an 8-year-old child, though he himself was 30-year-old that time. The case of Javed Ahmed Shah, now 39, has been challenged in the court of law, nine years after he joined the service. Javed has claimed that he was adopted by Mohammad Aslam Shah, a resident of village Dursoo in Bhavnad area of Shopian district. He also claims that Aslam had adopted him when he was born in 1976. But the complaint in the case (Aslam's sister Saleema) says that when her brother was killed, Javed was already 22-year-old. Yet he managed to convince various agencies of the State that he was an adopted son of Aslam. The General Administration Department (GAD) believed Javed's story and issued him temporary appointment order vide No. 1405/GAD of 2006 dated 20-11-2006 under SRO-43. The SR0-43 deals with cases where a family losses a member to militant actions and the Government compensates it either by providing ex-gratia relief or by giving employment to a member of the family. Saleema alleges that Javed not only committed fraud by suppressing facts but he also took the court for a ride, as he claimed in the court that he was adopted by Aslam in his childhood. Javed claimed that he was brought up by Aslam at his home and hence he was his only legal heir. Saleema alleged that the story of adoption had been cooked up by Javed and that he was just a close friend of Aslam and nothing more. She said the original father of Javed, Bashir Ahmed, has disowned him from his all movable and immovable properties. The disinheritance notice was published in local newspapers. She said she had approached former Home Minister to seek a probe against the alleged illegal appointment. She also alleged that Javed had entered into a criminal conspiracy to get a Government job under SRO-43. Saleema said that Javed has never mentioned Aslam as his father on his State Subject and other certificates and still got a job under the SRO in the department of taxes. She said that her husband is paralyzed and bed-ridden for past many years and that her brother's job should have been given to her. "Aslam was my brother. I should have got the job but Javed managed to make a fool of entire administration. My lone son was killed in a road accident some years ago," Saleema added. |
