Fearing trouble, Govt to defer Smart City selection | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 31: Sensing dispute over nomination of 'Smart City' between Srinagar and Jammu regions, the state government has decided to defer the issue. Days after the government had to face tough time in Jammu and Kashmir division over AIIMS, the government, according to Minister of State for Urban development Mohammad Ashraf Mir, has decided to keep nomination of one Smart City out of the two cities of the state lingering for time being. Mir told Early Times that there is no proposal with the government as of now to choose one city between these two cities. "For some obvious reasons now we cannot choose between Srinagar and Jammu as of now. We all know why. Why do you want me to say everything? So as of now I cannot say anything more about it. We are at serial number 101, let the union government start from somewhere then we will decide surely." J&K figures in the Centre's Smart City list comprising 300 cities and towns. About the Centre's announcement to implement 'Housing for all scheme' in J&K in which government has to develop 19 towns across the state on modern lines, Mir said that it is still a proposal and decision in this regard will be taken at the right time. The 15 states which have signed memoranda of agreement (MoA) with the Centre include J&K as well. It's only government of J&K that has sought more time to firm up choice to choose between Srinagar and Jammu cities, said sources. |
