Kishtwar: Work continues on Shivnagar-Srawan road despite court orders | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Aug 31: Construction work continues on Shivnagar-Srawan road in Kishtwar in brazen violation of the court orders. The court had banned the work on August 11 after protests erupted in Kishtwar on July 29 after Kishtwar police used force to disburse residents of Sirgwari and its adjoining areas who were demanding no change in road alignment that threatens their lives and property. The residents alleged that the contractor, in league with some employees of PMGSY department, was continuing the construction work that has caused huge damage to trees after the road alignment was changed by the department. The residents of Sirgwari, Kunoor, Kurna and Srawan villages in a petition filed in the court through advocate Asheesh Singh Kotwal had said that they felt aggrieved by the construction of Shivnagar-Srawan road. The alignment of the road, they have argued, is not good and the construction work is causing and likely to cause damage to their life and property. In support of the claim, the petitioners' counsel produced a copy of FIR (No. 45/2011 dated 08-03-2011) filed in police station Kishtwar and a report of Naib Tehsildar Kishtwar which supports the claim of the petitioners that one person lost his life due to triggering of shooting stone. Hearing the arguments, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal had on August 11 ordered immediate suspension of work at kilometer 13 of the Shivnagar-Srawan Road and directed Chief Engineer PMGSY Jammu, SE PMGSY Batote Circle and Executive Engineer PMGSY Doda II, Kishtwar to ensure that the directions passed by the court should be strictly complied with. But the locals alleged that the authorities concerned have failed to implement the court orders at the cost of trees and forest area. |
