Sadal’s migrants should be treated at par with Kashmiri migrants: Mankotia
9/1/2015 12:23:29 AM
Jammu, Aug 31, 2015: Recalling the havoc wrecked by the incessant rains followed by deluge and landslides in the Jammu region last year, Balwant Singh Mankotia expressed sympathies with the people and recalled that village Sadal was the worst hit hamlet which was completely washed away due to the torrential rains of last year along with several precious lives, homes, livestock and crops.

He was moved away by by the shabby plight of the migrants who are still battling hard for their existence and exhorted the State government to provide immediate relief and succor to the affected families by providing them with free ration, medicines and temporary shelters. Balwant lambasted the Central and State governments for their callous and apathetic attitude towards the people who have been marooned due to the natural adversity.

He regretted that they had grossly failed to redress the grievances of the flood victims for the last one year and demanded that the migrants of Sadal should be treated at par with the Kashmiri migrants thus entitling them for all the benefits and privileges enjoyed by the latter.

Sharing the grief and sorrow of the people Mankotia lamented that Union MoS Dr. Jeetender Singh had promised to convert and rehabilitate Sadal village as “Adarsh village” but nothing has been done on the ground reality so far. He said that several people were buried alive under the debris last year and few bodies are still lying beneath but government could do nothing to retrieve them .
