Re-organization of State shall end all problems in J&K: Intelligentsia | Separate statehood to Jammu, UT for Ladakh gaining momentum | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 3: Grant of separate statehood to Jammu and bifurcation of J&K into two states with grant of Union territory status is gaining momentum at present as the intellectuals and opinion makers are of the view that this will ultimately end the discrimination with the two regions i e Ladakh and Jammu region which is a common feeling among the people of these two regions. There is general notion among the people of the two regions that the maximum chunk of funds given as aid and other kind of assistance by Union Government goes to Kashmir Valley while the people of the two regions are left in lurch. Right from the establishment of Medical institutions to Agriculture and Central Universities to AIIMS the Jammu region was never given any thing out of sweet will or as a matter of right either by Union or State Government and without coming to streets given call for bandhs and strikes they were totally neglected by both the Governments. The Ladakhis have openly demanded the UT status to end the long discrimination with the region while the majority of people in Jammu region too stand for a separate statehood to Jammu region so that it gets its due share in the development. The demand for separate statehood to Jammu was given by Jammu Mukti Morcha, Dogra Liberation Front earlier. However a cadre of RSS also supported it in late nineties by framing Jammu State Morcha (JSM) and some leaders of Sangh from Delhi also strongly advocated for the demand and the JSM first time fought the 2002 Assembly elections in the State. After the rout of JSM the RSS backtracked and later announced its dissolution. However the demand did not die down and some more parties took it vigorously including National Panthers Party (NPP) which started openly demanding re-organization of J&K. The intellectuals and opinion makers in Jammu region while strongly advocating for separate statehood to Jammu said that they never got any thing whether SKUAST, Central university, AIIMS without struggle while Kashmiris were given these institutions without any struggle. In late seventies when Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah came to power again in the State with the help of Congress he succeeded in convincing New Delhi to provide him funds for establishment of SKIMS Soura while the demand for such type of Medical Institute in Jammu was turned down. The protagonists of separate statehood to Jammu and UT to Ladakh said that later in the establishment of Central University over six years back Jammu continued to get a raw deal and people of the region had again to resort to agitation for fulfillment of their genuine demand. The Government had to succumb before the pressure and it announced separate Central University for Jammu also. Again when AIIMS was announced for the State it went to Kashmir though an impression was given that the same would be established in Jammu as Kashmir has already SKIMS a prestigious medical institute on pattern of AIIMS. However in view of this discriminative approach of the Governments the people are demanding division of the State so that Jammu and Ladakh regions get their due. While the JSM, JMM, Dogra Front and other some organizations in Jammu and Ladakh still continue to raise their voice in favour of the demand, the NPP and KPC has openly come in support of the re-organization of the State saying that it will end every problem including the separatism from the State. |
