| Amid reshuffle rumours, BJP Ministers eye DyCM's post | | | ET Report
JAMMU, Sept 3: BJP Ministers in the alliance Government may not be focussing on the Ministries assigned to them but most of them are concentrating and converging on a common goal-the post of Deputy Chief Minister which they are eyeing for quite some time now. A group of senior Ministers within BJP are learnt to be striving hard and building pressure on their different lobbies in New Delhi to grab this post, courtesy speculations and rumours about possible reshuffle for this coveted post that have been doing rounds in the power corridors of the party lately.
Sources said as incumbent Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh has been under clouds of criticism for a host of reasons from within the party which compounded after AIIMS agreement fiasco in July this year, this gave enough space to speculations of change in guard of this post in the quarters that were already rife with rumours that party leadership is considering to bring in alternative incumbent in his place. There is constant effort to show him down on one or the other front and everyone in the party is after him with a purported strategy to get him replaced, sources said, the sole purpose being to take hold of the post second in power hierarchy.
There is a group of senior leaders occupying cabinet berths who have since been eyeing this post and trying every card to make this happen, sources said, adding that it is more than an ambition for a couple of BJP Ministers who are after it like a mission. While Health Minister is learnt to aspiring for this prestigious post and relying strongly on his contacts in Centre, Forest Minister Bali Bhagat is also in the race to clinch the berth, sources further said. Even a leader who is not a Cabinet Minister but occupying a prestigious post too is eyeing for this post and lobbying hard to clinch it in his favour, sources added.
Sources said in this race of self created musical chair of grabbing this post, these Ministers have ignored their respective ministries and their focus is on how to allow pressure groups in concerned quarters work on this front in their favour. Within the party too, many groups have been working hard to clinch the post in favour of those to whom they are loyal, sources said, adding that in the process, the job of the supporters is to stoke and intensify criticism against Dr Nirmal Singh for one or the other reason. Sources also said though party's central leadership as well as State's RSS wing is not quite happy about the way BJP Ministers have been working or showing their performance, which according to them is quite dismal, they (a group of Ministers) have been constantly aiming high for the post of Deputy Chief Minister unconcerned about showing or impressing with their performances. |
