Sumit Sharma ET Report JAMMU, Sept 3: A police constable who is allegedly involved in many cases of extortion and fraud has been placed under suspension after an Early Times report. In an order, Dr. S.P Vaid, Additional Director General of Police, Headquarters, Srinagar, said, "Since the incident is serious in nature and requires immediate action, hence a departmental inquiry is hereby ordered to be conducted against the GRP constable Manzoor Ahmed Haji (belt No. 747) by the officer to be the rank of SP as nominated by the IGP Railways." Dr Vaid also directed that the inquiry officer, to be nominated by the IGP GRP, Suliman Salaria, should submit the report within 10 days and shift the accused cop from his present place of posting till the inquiry is completed. Complying with the orders, the IGP GRP nominated SP GRP Pulwama, Zahid Manhas, as the inquiry officer and placed the accused cop under suspension. Police took action against the accused constable after an Early Times report published on September 1. This newspaper had reported how the constable while posing as PA to IGP Jammu, grabbed Rs 80,000 from an SPO on the pretext of getting him regularized. The incident had taken place a couple of weeks ago when the SPO namely Jewan Lal, posted in police station Dacchan, Kishtwar, who had come to Jammu in connection with his personal work met with constable Manzoor Ahmed Haji at Bhagwati Nagar. Manzoor while posing as PA to IGP Jammu motivated the SPO to give him Rs 55,000 for getting him regularized as constable. Later the SPO transferred Rs 25000 to the bank account of one Riyaz Ahmed Waghey of Pulwama Kashmir. The SPO later realized that he had been duped by constable Manzoor as the latter was facing a number of departmental inquiries. He brought the issue in the notice of senior police officers. |
