Sharma castigates Govt for imposing tax on chopper service | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 8: EX-President Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, YV Sharma strongly criticized the imposition of 12.5 % tax on the chopper service from Katra to sanjichhat comprising the route to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. According to press release, Sharma said that religious tourism in any part of state should be free from any kind of tax because it involves the religious sentiments of the people. It is very sensitive issues and any decision in this regard should not be taken arbitrarily. He further said that two senior leaders from the coalition partner of the government have also aired there strong opposition to the move, one of whom is the Minister in the government and other is Chief spokesman of the party. "They have criticized it openly and MOS Finance Ministry has regretted that the decision has been taken without taking him in to confidence", he said. Mr. Sharma reminded the coalition government that they are playing with fire. Jammu region is already confronted with the problems of last year's floods ,tensions, killings and displacement of the people in areas near the LOC due to violation from Pakistan which are seriously impacting the economy of the region. People of Jammu consider the pilgrimage of Mata Vashnio Devi Shrine as the main source and the back bone of the economy of the region. With the lot of discrimination in developing the tourist spots in Jammu region, this will generate doubt, suspicions and apprehensions in the minds of the people of Jammu about the intentions of the government in which BJP, the so called champion of the interests of the region is a coalition partner. Sharma urges government to review the decision and with draw it immediately in the interest of the religious tourism industry in the state. |
