VHP assails imposition of tax on Vaishno Devi heli-service | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 8: Assailing the decision of state government to impose service tax on chopper tickets for Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, the state unit of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) termed the move as nothing less than the erstwhile "Zazia" being levied by the Muslim rulers. Speaking before the media here today, the State VHP Patron Dr Ramakant Dubey said that the imposition of 12.5 service tax on helicopter tickets for the Vaishno Devi yatra in a way amounts to Rs 262 additional charges per passenger. He further said should this tax be not treated as erstwhile "Zazia" during Muslim period adding that already these pilgrims are being charged extra money as "Toll Tax" at Ban check post near Nagrota. Dubey said this is certainly an anti-Hindu action as it amounts to additional burden on the pockets of Vaishno Devi pilgrims. Terming the government action as a conspiracy, Dubey questioned that why the Finance Minister did not deem it fit to take into confidence his junior Minister Pawan Gupta while taking such a draconian decision. Dubey further said that by taking a unilateral decision like this the government it seems is trying to interfere in the constitutionally independent body like "Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board". Government has certainly fixed its eagle eyes on the income of Shrine Board which has since been functioning to the entire satisfaction of Hindus all over the world, he added. Dr Dubey warned the administration that if the order of this "Zazia" is not withdrawn immediately, consequences may take some ugly turn for which the government will be solely responsible. |
